When paying by card, you have several possibilities to charge a card. The fastest and easiest for you and your customers is contactless payment. This is also possible via smartphone apps and smartwatches.

Contactless payment

Using an app or cards that have the NFC symbol, a contactless payment can be made. Here's how:

  1. Select the payment method “card payment” on your orderbird MINI.
  2. Specify, whether tips should be added to the purchase value (if you have activated the tip query).
  3. To pay, customers must
    1. hold their card against the wide area on top of the orderbird MINI for a few seconds or
    2. unlock their cell phone and hold it against the wide area at the top of the orderbird MINI to pay with Google Pay or Apple Pay.

      Entering a PIN

For payments of €50 or more, the customer must enter their PIN.

  4. Once the payment is made, just print the receipt - done!

Contactless payment by Giro card is not supported!

Depending on the card and the issuing bank, contactless payment with the German "Giro card" is not possible. This affects many debit cards. The reason for this is that direct debits are possible when paying by Giro card, which can later burst.

Your advantage: Since no direct debits are allowed, every payment is guaranteed to be covered!

EC cards that are activated for Giro card payments often have other payment options activated, such as V-Pay. You can then charge these cards by paying via chip (see below).

If a payment via app is rejected, it is very likely that a Giro card is stored in the app. Then the person making the payment must select another card in their app, e.g. a credit card, or insert the physical card into the MINI.

Card payment via chip by insertion

Chip payment can be made with all types of cards. And this is how it works:

  1. Select the payment method "card payment".
  2. Specify whether tip should be added to the purchase value (if you have activated the tip query).
  3. Insert the card with the chip first into the lower card slot of the orderbird MINI, as shown in the small drawing above the slot. Make sure that the chip is on the top side.

    Entering a PIN

For payments of €50 or more, the customer must enter their PIN.

  4. Once the payment is made, the card can be pulled out again.
  5. Print the receipt - and you're done!

Card payment via magnetic stripe

About paying with magnetic stripe

Whether payment by magnetic stripe works depends on the card and the card-issuing banking institution. However, this payment is considered outdated and insecure and is only enabled by a few institutions.

  1. Select the payment method "Card payment".
  2. Specify whether tips should be added to the purchase value (if you have activated the tip query).
  3. Now hold the card with the magnetic strip facing down and swiftly pull it horizontally through the upper slot of the orderbird MINI, as shown in the drawing. The direction does not matter.
  4. As soon as the payment has been made, the receipt must be printed - done!
